Experience - this is not what happens to man. This is what a man does with it when something happens.
Aldous Huxley
What if the age of 46 you are burned beyond recognition in a terrible motorcycle accident, and then four years later were paralyzed from the waist down after a crash? Can you count on what will become a millionaire, a respected political figure, happy newlyweds or a prosperous businessman? Can you imagine a fused rafts? Parachute? Running for Congress?
Mr Mitchell went through all this after two terrible disasters, when his face were of a motley patchwork quilt of transplanted skin, the hands have lost their fingers, and thinned his feet rested motionless in a wheelchair.
Mitchell, 16 operations were postponed after the motorcycle accident when he was burned over 65 percent of the skin, and he was unable to pick up a fork, dial a telephone number or take a bath without anyone's help. But Mitchell, a former Marine soldier, never give up.
- I'm the commander of his ship - he said. - I can consider this situation as a temporary retreat or as a starting point.
Six months later he was again piloted the plane.
Mitchell bought himself a house in Colorado in the Victorian style - a such an old mansion, an airplane and a bar. Later, he teamed with two friends, founded the company for processing of timber and timber became the second most important industrialist in Vermont.
And four years after the motorcycle accident, plane, piloted by Mitchell, collapsed on the runway during takeoff. In Mitchell was damaged 12 thoracic vertebrae and the whole body is paralyzed below the waist.
- I was thinking: what the deuce is going on with me? What I done to deserve this?
Not a broken failure, Mitchell worked day and night, to regain their independence. He was elected mayor of the city Krestid-Booth in Colorado, putting the task to save the city from the mines, which destroyed the beauty of the environment. Later, Mitchell ran for Congress, using its extraordinary appearance as a trump card and going to elections under the slogan: "Not just another pretty face."
Despite his shocking appearance, and physical injury, Mitchell engaged in timber-floating rafts, fell in love and got married, received a master's degree, he continued to fly and actively engaged in the protection of nature and politics.
His unwavering and active position explains his appearance in the TV show "Today Show" and "Good Morning America" as well as its regular publication in newspapers and magazines "Parade," "Time", etc.
- Before I was paralyzed, I was able to do 10 000 things - says Mitchell. - There remained 9000. I have to concentrate on 1000, or lost skills, or for 9000 remaining. I tell people that I filled two huge bumps in life. If I chose not to use them as an excuse to leave the scene, perhaps, and you're in those situations that you pull back, see new perspectives. You can step back a bit to see a broader perspective, and say: "Perhaps it is not so difficult."
Remember - it does not matter what happens to you, but how you act at this time.
