Spiral Dynamics model is built on the original idea of Dr. Clare W. Graves. In short, his ideas are as follows:

Human nature develops gradually from one balanced state to another. These states can be identified stages of development, with each subsequent stage adds new elements to the previous. Each of the previous, in turn, is the basis for follow-up, which may happen or may not happen.

Each level defines the existence of a certain way of perception of the world, as well as create some filters in the human consciousness, influencing the process of perception. This - especially in decision-making, principles of organization and management of business and political structures, ideas and ways to adapt to reality.

After years of research Dr. Greyvz created a "growing, cyclical two-spiral model for development of bio-psycho-social systems of adults" [1]. He used a pair of letters of the Latin alphabet to denote the interaction of external conditions and internal systems. He called them vMemes and they are as follows: AN, BO, CP, DQ, ER, FS, A'-N ', B'-O', etc. But between each pair, there are also two transition states. System is rather complicated, especially until you are accustomed to letters.

Note that the model has nothing to do with value judgments and comparisons of one level to another type of "better-worse." It simply determines which system of thought prevails.

As the spiral develops, each previous state of reality is moving in the next, with all its attendant changes in priorities, values and attitudes. Since the subsequent reality can be anywhere in the helix, an issue that is important to ask, may sound like: "What is the future of this person or group of people (companies), if at the time he (a) the world feels this way and passes through a process of change ?. According Greyvza approach, the question "What are these people?" better to replace the question "How do they think about certain things in certain circumstances?" Thus, the model is not a typology, and describes the development of systems that grow from one another.

Another "sister" for Spiral Dynamics approach is memetika, the science of the memah - bags of ideas or information that such viruses are transmitted from one mind to another, from one community to another. Spiral Dynamics memy connects with the deeper forces of human nature, which "attract" or "spreading" memy [2]. More than the usual terms describing the same phenomenon - a "system of values, the levels of psychological existence." Connect with memetikoy appeared in the book "Spiral Dynamics" in 1966 and was not part of the original Doctor Greyvza.

Status and movement of spirals arise as a result of interaction between the living conditions (historical background, physical location, psycho-social problems, socio-economic circumstances) and a set Memov available to individual or collective mind (internal system).

Typically, evolutionary movement occurs in the direction of more complex, consisting of "higher" levels, but in life there are no guarantees, and sometimes there is regression to a lower and less complex structures [3].

For simplicity, in the late 1970's were introduced color codes. These colors do not have any special hidden meaning, except for attempts to facilitate the memorization of various levels.

Eight of the values that have already occurred, and coexist with each other on Earth.

1. Beige (A) state of nature and biological needs, dictate the physical sensation of the state of being.
2. Purple (B) threatening the world, full of mystical forces and spirits that need to worship and to please or pacify.
3. RED (C) as in the jungle where the strong beats weak, nature is something that must be conquered.
4. BLUE (D), all controlled by the Higher Power that punishes evil and eventually rewards good and righteous life.
5. ORANGE (E) world, full of resources and opportunities to do better and achieve prosperity.
6. GREEN (F) environment in which humanity can find love and fulfill their goal of working together and sharing.
7. Yellow (G) chaotic organism where change is the norm, and uncertainty - an acceptable state of being.
8. BLUE (H) finely balanced system of interlocking forces, where risk management is in the hands of mankind.
9. Coral (I) is too early to tell, but the trend should be toward the I-oriented, management, consolidation, if the principle of development will continue.


With representatives from each world are looking for in life (the goal of "success" of existence).

1. Beige (AN) survival; satisfaction biogenetic needs; reproduction; satisfaction instinctive desires.
2. Purple (BO) of natural spirits, worship of ancestors, protection from harm, family ties.
3. RED (CP) power / power / force, the desire to dominate others; control; sensual pleasure.
4. BLUE (DQ) stability / order; obedience for the sake of future rewards, the importance of the goal; certainty.
5. ORANGE (ER) opportunity / success; competition for the result; influence; independence.
6. GREEN (FS) harmony / love; Union for co-development, consciousness, sense of belonging.
7. Yellow (GT) independence / dignity, to be part of a living system, knowledge, good questions.
8. BLUE (HU) global community / life force, the preservation of life on Earth; adapting to reality.


Levels of ways to adapt, activated a certain reality.

Beige (N) instinctive: manage natural instincts and reflexes, the automatic existence.

Violet (O) animists: according to the traditions or rituals Group; breeding; animistichny.

RED (P) self-centered: self-assertion, dominance, seizure, power, exploitation, self-absorption.

BLUE (Q) absolutist: obedient leadership of Supreme Commander, conformism, a sense of guilt.

ORANGE (E) multifaceted: pragmatically to achieve results and move forward, if the ability to maneuver.

GREEN (S) realistic: responsible for human needs, ready to cooperate, spontaneous, seeking consent; fluid.

Yellow (T) system: a functional, integrated, independent, existential, flexible, inquiring; host.

Blue (U) integrity: based on experience; transpersonalny; collective consciousness, ability to cooperate; interconnected.

Model doctor Greyvza is open, which means that the new letters, numbers and colors can be added, as will arise and become apparent, new levels of psychological existence of human nature. His use of a series of six letters suggests that the development cycle, and the seventh level corresponds to the first, eighth to the second and so on. In connection with this notion appeared first layer, second layer, etc., each of which consists of six levels of thinking.

Another similar process took place very recently and is now known as "restructuring." Hierarchical system began to decay and the country again, to a certain extent, plunged into the red level of hard struggle for power, gang wars, redistribution of property, etc. Attempts by leaders of the time to apply the model of capitalist countries naturally ended in failure for the simple reason that they were attempting to artificially give the structure of a specific type of thinking the system was another level. Nothing to say, we are now seeing a very complex interplay of trends that people want can be misleading - the war and redistribution of property (red) continuing, there is an attempt to reconstruct the hierarchical structure of sufficient rigidity (blue), while there is a serious tendency to move in the direction of democratic freedoms, and entrepreneurship (orange).
